Between layers of comfortable viscose, we have added a paper-thin layer of DuPontTM Nomex® Nano Flex, which acts as a protective barrier against particles without compromising comfort.

Thinner and lighter than other FR materials, it’s a highly breathable, flame-resistant (FR) material with superior particle barrier performance.

The addition of Nomex® Nano Flex to a firefighter hood composite structure provides improved particle barrier protection in the neckline and upper jaw area that historically are known to be the most vulnerable and least protected.

To test the barrier performance, wear trials were conducted with hoods containing the Nomex® Nano Flex barrier in between the viscose layers on one-half of the hood. After the wear trials, the hoods were turned inside out and inspected. Compare the amount of particles penetrating the hood with or without the paper-thin Nomex® Nano Flex protective layer.

Based on the Nomex® brand that has been trusted by firefighters around the world for more than 50 years, Nomex® Nano Flex was developed to help make products like firefighter hoods more protective against particles without compromising comfort. Nomex® Nano Flex is a highly breathable, flameresistant (FR) material with exceptional elasticity and superior particle barrier performance. It is thinner and lighter weight than other FR materials.

Nomex® Nano Flex is a specialty nonwoven made of submicron continuous fibers which provides a superior protective barrier. Heat and flame protection is inherent to the Nomex® fiber - it can’t be washed away or worn down.
