When you’re protecting the rugged terrain of Franklin County, Virginia, you don’t just need a fire truck; you need an American-made powerhouse built to chew up steep mountain roads and deliver heavy-hitting suppression where hydrants are miles away.
At Vest Sales & Service, there is no greater honor than when a local department trusts you with their frontline apparatus not just once, but TWICE. We are incredibly proud to celebrate the official in-service announcement of Callaway Volunteer Fire Department’s second Toyne Fire Apparatus: Pumper 5! Placing a new rig in service is a milestone, but retiring a legend makes it historic. Pumper 5 officially took the watch on March 17, 2026, replacing Callaway’s dedicated, longtime 1991 Tanker 5. When a department with as much tradition and community pride as Callaway trusts you with their frontline response twice, it’s more than a sale—it's a partnership rooted in trust. This new Pumper isn’t just adding to their fleet; it's reinforcing a commitment to providing superior protection to the local community. It's more water, more pump capacity, and a design refined by the real-world experiences of the very people who will operate it.
Built for the Mountain. Crafted for the Brotherhood.
A truck isn't measured by its shiny paint and graphics; it’s measured by its grit, its engineering, and its reliability when the tones drop at 3:00 AM. Crafted with Toyne’s legendary Stainless Steel Body construction and mounted on a new Freightliner SD114 2-Door Commercial Chassis, this rig is spec'd to perfection for Callaway’s territory:
500 HP Cummins ISX12 Engine: Pure American muscle designed to conquer rural, mountainous terrain without breaking a sweat.
Allison 4000 EVS Transmission: Smooth, heavy-duty power delivery when accelerating up steep grades.
1,800-Gallon Water Tank: Massive increased capacity, essentially bringing a bigger arsenal with you to remote areas.
1,250 GPM Waterous CS Pump: Backed by over 100 years of pump manufacturing excellence, offering heavy-hitting flow when seconds count.
Next-Gen Crew Safety: Enhanced braking systems, integrated seatbelt alerts, upgraded rear cameras, and high-visibility reflective striping to ensure the crew makes it back to the firehouse safe.
Upgraded LED Scene Lighting: Turning midnight into daylight on pitch-black rural roads.
Classic Federal Q-Siren: Because it wouldn’t be a real fire truck without that distinctive, piercing mechanical wail that instantly clears the right-of-way.
Already Proven On The Front Line
A real workhorse doesn't sit in the bay looking pretty. Since being placed in service, Pumper 5 has already caught its first working fire.
Crews were dispatched to a vehicle fire dangerously exposing a nearby residential structure. Thanks to the fast deployment of Pumper 5, alongside the seamless brotherhood and mutual aid from Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department, Rocky Mount Fire Department, and Franklin County Fire & EMS, the fire was aggressively knocked down and contained strictly to the vehicles—saving a citizen's home. That is what top-tier training combined with top-tier equipment looks like!
A Legacy of Trust
Over a decade ago, Callaway VFD purchased their first Toyne from us: the battle-tested Attack 5 (a 2016 Ford F-550 4x4 XLT Toyne Mini Pumper).

By choosing Toyne Fire Apparatus and Vest Sales & Service for their brand-new Pumper 5, Callaway reinforces a legacy of trusting American-made quality built by hard-working hands in the heartland of America.
To all of the members at Callaway Volunteer Fire Department: THANK YOU for your continued loyalty, your unmatched dedication to Franklin County, and your unwavering service. May Pumper 5 serve you safely for decades to come!
